Nov. 16, 2017 – Tax reform is moving through Capitol Hill. The House passed H.R.1, Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, by a vote of 227 to 205. The vote was largely alone party lines with no Democratic support and only 13 Republicans opposing the measure; see the Roll Call vote. Amid new opposing mounting, Senate Finance Committee approved the GOP’s overhaul of our nation’s tax code in a 14-12 vote, also along party lines. The emerging Senate version contains a number of amendments offered by Republicans. Conversely, a plethora of Democratic amendments were rejected.
